For its third year, Migration Memory Encounters joined Rörelsernas museum (the Museum of Movements). The aim is for MME to continue being an important part of the migration and artistic history of Sweden. MME will continue with the series of conversations, art exhibitions, and performances on the topics.
The first program of Migration Memory Encounters (MME) hosted a multi–act event in Malmö Konsthall on September 15. The event revolved around the evermore present concept of ‘Nationalism’, its practices and manifestations.
Panel discussions, presentations and performances explored the colonial and/or violent undercurrents of production and maintenance of the notion of nationality. We asked questions such as whether such projects are temporally limited practices, what it means to be from somewhere, belonging to a place or alternatively leaving a place, while seeking another place of belonging. Furthermore, we discussed ways in which different artistic practices open new worlds of possibility for both formulating the violent tendencies regarding ‘nationality’ as well as offering a new language of resistance against such forces.
